We started out over a decade ago in resin casting, and believe we are one of the highest quality manufacturers on the market! We have perfected out techniques and strive to produce flawless parts with as little waste as possible.
In recent years, the quality of 3d printing has been increasing, and the price of the machines has been dropping, as a result it is now viable to offer 3d printed resin products alongside the traditional cast resin ones.
We see a lot of debate about the quality of 3d prints, with concerns over layer lines and warping - a lot of these issues are caused by incorrect printer settings, or poor quality printers.
The example above shows an almost identical mini, that has been both cast and 3d printed for produciton on an 8k printer, by the time they are primed and painted the differences are almost imperceptible!
Whilst the printed production parts cannot completely match our cast parts for quality of finish, we are sure that the printed minis we sell are brilliant for nearly all levels or gamers - and why wouldn't this be the case, after all even the cast resin parts are copies of 3d printed masters, the difference being that we put a number of hours into making those parts flawless before moulding them.
The advantage of using 3d printing for some of our manufacturing is the reduced lead time, lower sales volume requirement, and print-on-demand nature. We release a new set of sculpts each month on Anvil Digital Forge, and it would not be possible to keep up with cast resin production of it all.
Having 3d printing as an option means we can make far more sculpts available to people without their own printer and also release sculpts that might be more niche or otherwise not sell in the quanities required to invest in cast resin production. Finally we do not need to keep stock of printed items, which takes up less storage space and means less material waste.
We try to make it as clear as possible what products are cast resin, and which are 3d printed. Because of the lead time on shipped printed parts, you will always need to check a box to confirm you understand there may be a wait. All printed porducts also specify the material in the product description. We take photos of example of actual parts, so you can also use these to judge the quality.
As with all Anvil products if you are ever unsatisfied with the quality of something you receive, please reach out to us at support@anvilindustry.co.uk
