Conversion Corner: Bits Bag Challenge

Conversion Corner: Bits Bag Challenge

If you were lucky enough to grab a free Bits Bag in our massive Black Friday deal, you might be gazing in wonder at the bitty goodness within, marveling at the possibilities.

Well, we felt the same way! So, with the promise of an extra tea break to spur them on, we gave five Anvil Staffers a bits bag each and twenty minutes to see what they could come up with

---

JOEL - FREEDOM FIGHTER

Freedom Fighter wargaming model

"After a quick rummage through the Bits Bag, I found a Chain Sickle from a Skeleton Commissar, which I stuck on a Dragunov Rifle to make a cool-looking gun. The model looked like a revolutionary freedom fighter, so I stuck on a few more bits to make it look like she has been on the front lines for a while, fighting against the oppressors!"

 ---

DAN- THE FALCONER

Falconer wargaming model

"I got lucky with my Bits Bag- a big sword AND a bird? What more could you ask for? The familiars set has some superb little critters in there, so I had the bird perching on his master's wrist, ready to take flight. Possibly to intercept enemy pigeons... It's a simple conversion, but the hunched look of the officer mirroring his falcon makes it pop quite nicely."

 ---

JACK- THE ANGEL OF RATS

Angel of Rats wargaming

"I loved putting this model together. I've wanted to do something with the spooky empty hood for a while now, so this was the perfect chance! I decided on a shaddowy figure, stalking the sewers with just the rats for company. The scythe came from Death, and the mechanical wings rounded off the conversion quite nicely."

LIAM - MECHANISED WARRIOR

Mechanised warrior wargaming
"This guy is a mobile mechanic- if it has wheels/tracks/hover pads- he can fix it! I scored an Exo Lord Mechanical Arm Conversion Set in my Bits Bag, so that formed a great base to build off for this model."

 ---

ADAM - CAPTAIN CODPIECE

Last, and certainly not least, it's Captain Codpiece.
"I got a Pin-up Commissar body and leg. I gave him a beret at a jaunty angle. The rifle strap was done with just a thin strip of plasticard. Then, I glued a gasmask to his crotch because I thought it was funny (SPOILER: It was!)".

Well, that's 20 minutes of company time we're never going to get back. But let us know what you think in the comments, and please do email us your own conversions to media@anvilindustry.com.

Captain Codpiece gets my vote

My first thought was this is hardly fair - 20mins! - that's just selecting bits and sticking them together without a defining concept; so your employees did quite well.

Dan is actually my favourite although I felt posing the raven to face forward would have been preferable as would repositioning its head to be looking up, whilst the falconer is looking down would have been really great, but you only had 20 mins!

Joel is a nice figure, except for the impractical chain saw.

Captain Codpiece is great given the time limit but that strap dangling from his bicep is going to piss him off, strap should have been even narrower and go over his right shoulder for realism.

Jack did a nice job of advertising the mechanical wings, but pose is not great, wish he had more time for this it could have been great, but with only 20 mins, low quality filler and no time to clean, what can you do?

Liam, sorry guy not my thing - the shear mass of the back pack should have him prostrate struggling to stand. Given the random bits pack and limited time?

Damn! Wish I had one of these packs. Perhaps marketing and the high council will decide to sell such at a reasonable cost and run some form of  customer competition without the ludicrous time constraint. I looked at all and thought, that could have been so much better - but in 20mins! No they really couldn't have been - well done everyone.

Bits bashing has always been a great part of the hobby, brilliant!

What set did Joel use for the arms on his freedom fighter? I'm having a hard time finding them on the website.

I love Dan the Falconer best.  Simple and elegant, and what better way to scare the enemies of mankind, or keep soldiers in line than your own hunting bird!
